When visitors to Japan are asked what first attracted them to Japan culture, comic books(manga) is an increasingly common response. In Kyoto, visitors have a unique opportunity in the International Manga Museum, which is located near the downtown shopping area along Karasuma Street. It is a joint project sponsored by Kyoto City and Seika University. Part library and part museum, the facility houses and preserves over 300,000 volumes of manga, manga related items, magazines, and even woodblock prints.
